A friend laughed at me one time during our book conversation because he noticed that at my age, 27, I still read children’s books. Don’t laugh at me, I have my own reasons and you’ll come to respect it by and by. I’m not actually talking about Cinderella and Snow White kind of stories, more like Neil Gaiman’s Coraline and The Graveyard Book, Chronicles of Narnia type.

1. Children’s book are very good for light reading. Pages are more or less than 200 with font size ranging from 12px to 14px, Verdana or Arial style. If you only have minimal free time but still wishes to read a book just for the love of it, children’s book is for you.

2. They have simple plots, usually straight to the point.  Protagonist don’t have to endure so much suffering, pain or trials in his life. Villains always lose.

3. The adventures takes us to a different world, may be magic or pirate or fantasy. It makes me feel young, no limits, I can do anything in that world, nothing is impossible.

4. Well, 99.9% of the main character in children’s book is a child. The innocence of that child in reasoning, assessing the problem and in finding a solution, never a complicated one. Just so pure and so simple makes me want to have that kind of thinking, no complications whatsoever.

5. Love is always pure. Pure love for family, friends even pets are always shown. If there’s a  romantic relations involve they always show loyalty, honesty and trust, no third parties, not much disloyalty. Shows that that kind of love still exist, even in books.

6. This is my favorite, 99.9% ends up happily. I rate stories after closing the back cover, sometimes you can find me smiling, laughing, crying (yes I also cry over a book), disappointed, craving, contented and happy while still holding a book. 99.9% after reading a children’s story, I feel happy and contented. With all the responsibilities and tragedy happening in our world today, an hour of happiness reading a children’s book is worth it.

For the record, I also read adult books, Alcott, Brown, Larsson, Gaiman, Shakespeare. I read any kind of books as long as I can read it’s text (Tagalog and English only please), books amuses me a lot. All I am saying is there’s no harm in reading children’s books from time to time, try it it’s fun.
